Rapper Wyclef Jean has officially endorsed Haitian Presidential candidate/musician Michel "Sweet Micky" Martelly last night (February 16th) during a press conference at the Hotel Karibe in Port-Au-Prince. According to Wyclef, Martelly is the popular candidate amongst Haiti's youth, which make up about 50% of Haiti's 9 million citizens. The original elections took place in November, but were contested due to fraud, violence and disorganization. Former presidential candidate Jude Celestin has been disqualified over the allegations. So, at the recommendation of the Organization of American States (OAS), the November 2010 elections were suspended and new elections are being planned for March 20th, 2011. “I’ve made it my job to always bring attention to my homeland, and today, to make sure the world’s attention focuses on the best presidential candidate for Haiti, Michel Martelly,” Jean said. “I truly believe he will be instrumental in Haiti’s rebirth and is a strong voice of the Haitian youth who are desperate to be heard.”
Rapper Kosha Dillz recently announced he will be traveling from Maine to
Los Angeles, with a stop at SXSW 2011 for official showcases to reach out to his fans. Kosha will be performing in cities across the United States in support of the Tipitina’s Foundation. For each person who attends a show, gives a "high five" to Kosha Dillz or buys merchandise, a nickel will be given to the Tiptinas Foundation. By donating to the Tiptinas Foundation fans will be supporting Louisiana and New Orleans' music community, much of which is still suffering from Hurricane Katrina. This is not the first time that Kosha has supported cultures affected by tragedy. In 2010, Kosha’s “Hero For Haiti’s Tour” raised money for various independent charities supporting Haitian relief efforts.
