Most of A Tribe Called Quest Skip Sundance, Issues Statement

The majority of rap group A Tribe Called Quest did not attend the highly anticipated Sundance Film Festival premiere of a documentary about the group, titled Beats, Rhymes & Life.

Just hours ago, Beats, Rhymes & Life, which chronicles A Tribe Called Quest's 20-years in the Hip-Hop industry, debuted at Sundance Film Festival without the support of Ali Shaheed Muhammad, Jarobi and Q-Tip.

Group member Phife did attend the screening.

The group's overall lack of involvement in the documentary comes on the heels of a public spat between the documentary's director, actor Michael Rapaport and rapper Q-Tip, who claimed Rapaport was insensitive to the group's requests regarding certain scenes in the film.

"Thanks to our fans for their support through the years and for the enthusiasm around the documentary," Ali Shaheed Muhammad, Jarobi and Q-Tip told AllHipHop.com in a joint statement released tonight (January 22nd).

"We hope that the film’s perspective conveys our love of hip-hop culture," Tribe continued in the statement. "We could not attend Sundance, but we want to express our love and appreciation for the support that we have received in advance of the film’s premiere tonight. We hope that it is well received. Thank you."
