The '80s icon is currently working on a new album called The Masterpiece, which will be his first since 1997's Forever.
[This has been in the works] for the last 14 years. All the things I've been through in my life, I just started jotting them down and putting it all together," Brown said of the new LP.
"Being seven-and-a-half years clean from narcotics, I think God has made a masterpiece, and that's why I called the album that."
Brown also talked about his decision to take the stage with New Edition at a concert in Mississippi just hours after learning of Whitney's death.
"There was no way to get to my daughter and the only way to express myself was to go on stage," he reflected. "Just crying wasn't gonna do it. I cried possibly more than I've ever cried in my life other than when my mother and my father passed.
"She would've wanted me to go on stage," he continued. "That's what we do. We're entertainers and the show must go on."
