Maino's Brother Mouse Get's 'Gangsta' In New Novel

Maino and his younger brother Jermel "Mouse" Coleman teamed up and gone into business together to publish Mouse's debut novel Gangsta's Don't Die.
Gangsta's Don't Die is a street tale spun by Mouse, that follows the life of the character Calvin "Littles" Goodman, as he hustles through the streets.

Like his older brother Maino, Mouse spent years behind bars. While Maino honed his rapping skills to become a famous rapper, Mouse began writing his debut novel.

"For those who are unable relate to the story, I'm trying to paint a picture of understanding for them," Mouse said of the book. "So even though they can't relate to the choices that some of us make growing up in the inner city, they can understand the circumstances, and maybe relate to the integrity of some of these characters. And for those who truly come from that same place, they will relate to the sense of camaraderie, loyalty and love."

Mouse, who was looked in federal prison for drug and gun charges, has dubbed himself a "street interpreter."

His influences include Teri Woods, Sister Souljah, Nikki Turner, Aaron and Quan.

Mouse explained that his stories are drawn from real life experiences, something he attempts to convey through his writing style and storytelling ability.

"This book conveys the sense of family, brother and sisterhood that I feel strongly about," Mouse said. "As an author and storyteller, I try to be as visual as possible. I try to give the reader as much as insight I can see in my head, right down to the scent. I draw my stories from a real place.

“I took my morals and my principals and incorporated that into the characters of this book," Mouse continued. "It’s almost a too real life look into what goes on in the street, and at the same time it’s fiction, it’s enjoyable, but I definitely took what I feel, or what I believe, or what I would’ve done in some of these situations and created this book."
